Our Mission

At The Buddy System Inc., we believe that no veteran should ever feel left behind. Our mission is to pair U.S. veterans with trained service animals—creating lifelong partnerships that bring healing, independence, and renewed purpose.

We are committed to rescuing dogs whenever possible, providing full access to professional training at no cost to the veteran, and covering the first year of veterinary care. This means the only responsibility our veterans carry is to show up, bond, and feed their new Buddy.

Who We Are

Founded in Indiana by a team of veterans, families, and community members, The Buddy System Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization built on one simple promise: No Buddy Left Behind. Our work is powered by passionate volunteers, generous sponsors, and the unwavering belief that every step taken together makes a difference.

What We Do

• Training Support – Guiding veterans and their Buddies through the entire training journey, ensuring success and long-term bonds.
  
  
• Service Animal Placement – Matching veterans with dogs specifically trained to meet their physical and emotional needs.
  
  
• Community Engagement – Hosting events like the Battle Buddy 5K Fun Run & Walk, fundraisers, and outreach programs to raise awareness and build support networks.
  
  
• Ongoing Care – Covering initial veterinary expenses and ensuring every Buddy begins their journey on a foundation of health and strength.

For many veterans, transitioning back into civilian life comes with invisible battles—PTSD, anxiety, and physical challenges. Service animals provide not just assistance, but companionship, loyalty, and unconditional love. By pairing veterans with Buddies, we are restoring hope, rebuilding confidence, and strengthening lives.
